@ the LA Mart- 12th Floor
933 S Broadway, Los Angeles CA 90007
(home of the Art Platform art fair)

Friday, October 21st, 7-10pm

Vertigo presents a mix of artists brought together by four artist/curators from disparate social networks, asked to freely select fellow Los Angeles artists whose work they are interested in. Instead of relying on a single curatorial vision, this curatorial premise encourages a spontaneous mixing of different art "worldviews," moving fluidly between radically different forms of pictorial iconography and modes of cultural production. This survey seeks to expand the conventional confines of what a group show is ‘about’ by allowing accidental combinations of overlapping meaning to encourage active cross-pollination of ideas and intent between communities of artists and their respective bodies of work. Combining abstraction, myth, comics, music, reportage and history into a single exhibition construct provides an aerial snapshot of our understanding of the contemporary moment in Los Angeles, a snapshot taken high above the clouds that privileges transitory moments of connection between different modes of art production on the ground.

Artists in the Show: Jonathan Apgar, Nina Becker, York Chang, Michael Dopp, Steve Hampton, Michelle Carla Handel, Wendy Heldmann, Katie Herzog, William Kaminski, Owen Kidd, Ashley Landrum, Max Presneill, Nano Rubio, Gabie Strong, Grant Vetter, Stephanie Washburn, Peter Wu and Samira Yamin.
